Surgical PA schedules - what's yours?

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow PAs. I was wondering for those in the surgical field what type of schedule you work. Our practice is mostly hospital-based and includes surgical first assisting. We also have six physicians.

I'm curious to know how many of you work with only 1 doc in your practice and how that works as compared to being a PA that all the docs use on your day on.

I'm hoping through this I can learn from you all about what's been working great and what hasn't.

Private practice that's hospital-based with clinic. Work with just one doc. Usually start 7-8 and end when the work is done, usually 7 or so. Average about 60 hours weekly. Slow weeks can be 30 hours and busy 70+. No weekends officially, although I use weekends to finish charting, so I'm probably working more like 65 on average. Working with one doc is great. We take care of our own, no sign out or coverage. More work on our end, especially when we're "off," but I enjoy seeing it through and I think patients appreciate seeing just the two of us throughout the entire process from consult to last visit. It's also easy to know what one doc likes/wants rather than several.
