Research Experience??

Recommended Posts

Guest GoyaHoya69

I don't believe it to be necessary for a strong applicant, but I have been on a few interviews where the interviewers specifically commented on it and were impressed with the amount of publications and poster presentations I have on my CV. So I would consider it an added bonus on your application.

Most PA programs don't really care about research, unless there's patient interaction. PA schools are focused on making clinicians, not researchers. If you don't have it, that's fine. If you do, it's interesting and you can discuss transferable skills such as attention to detail, critical thinking, analytical skills, etc.

How important is research experience in the application process?

For most schools, not at all.  The primary reason it's in there, I suspect, is to reduce the number of frantic phone calls that go something like "But I've spent 1,200 hours on this research... Surely it HAS to go on CASPA SOMEWHERE?!?!"
