Family Medicine RVUs

Recommended Posts

I don't particularly understand RVUs.  I was given a job offer today (in family medicine).  On top of the hourly rate, the HR lady sent me a few vague comments regarding how they pay out bonuses.  I just don't have a single clue how much RVUs I would expect to make each year, how they are calculated, etc.  She stated that I can switch to an RVU system as soon as I have a full-time caseload.  I don't know what they consider full-time caseload, so I'll be asking that in my follow-up email.  Any insight is appreciated!

Comments about RVUs below:

2017 WRVU performance target is 3,500

WRVU’s will be guaranteed  at $20.00 per RVU for RVU’s in excess of 3500

Total compensation equals base salary plus WRVU bonus subject to a 40% cap of net collections

Base salary at this time is adjusted to $85,000/year.
Typically providers don’t want to switch to the compensation model until they are hitting the 3500 wRVU’s/year or they will take a loss in compensation.
