New Grad - Non-profit organization - Productivity Salary

Recommended Posts

Hello, I would like some feedback regarding this current opportunity. I am a new grad looking for my first grown up job. I encountered this Christian non profit org called "Horisons Unlimited Healthcare." From what I've learned they hire new grads, train them as much time as needed, provide a scribe, and is located in underserved area. I would have to relocate.

Job posting states: Salary 90k - 200k, Paid vacation and holidays, 401K with 9% match, loan repayment, CME allowance. Sounds too good to be true? Turns out its a productivity salary paying $25 per patient. Is productivity salary a good option for a new grad?

Any thoughts? I'm debating if this is something I should pursue.

Thanks in advance !!!

$25/patient... see 16 in an 8 hour day? $50/hour, or $100k/year  So $200k is reachable, but only by hitting 30+/day, every day, for 250 days a year. No extra pay for procedures or more complex visits?

In general, no, productivity is NOT a good option for new providers: you can either go slow and learn as you go and never pay off student loans, or get reckless in an attempt to dig yourself out of debt.

Also, I would only recommend working with a nonprofit where you personally align with their mission and goals.  Nonprofits generally don't pay well, and it can be kind of a stressful environment.  I've found management in nonprofits can be based on "who stays around longest without quitting because the pay stinks" rather than trained competence, but that's not going to be true everywhere.
