corpsman89 Posted September 19, 2016 Share Posted September 19, 2016 Hi all, I posted this in the state specific area, but I dont think it gets much traffic (0 Views). I was hopeing some practicing PAs familiar with the state of West Virignia would be able to chime in. I was accepted to a school in WV and am heavily considering attending. However, I have noticed that WV scope of practice for PAs is among the worst in the nation. Am I just reading material that is out dated or is this true? Is it true that PAs cannot prescribe schedule II medications in WV, and can only prescribe 72 hours of schedule III medication? That's worse than Florida, and they didn't even allow PAs to prescribe medication less than 6 months ago. Other than prescribing authority, are there any other disparities for PAs in WV? moestown1016 Posted September 19, 2016 Share Posted September 19, 2016 Even if you go to school there it doesn't mean you can't move somewhere where it's better. Georgia isn't allowed to prescribe level II's and I work in busy ER. When I do write for it the docs just co-sign. It's state specific not just where you were originally trained. But your right I can always go somewhere else. So when you prescribe Schedule II, is it a big hastle to have the doc co-sign? Sounds like its not too bad. I graduate in December and would say approximately half of my class already has a job lined up or have offers they are considering...I am not aware of any of them staying within 200 miles of our school other than the few who already have husbands/children and were already established here. They say you can pick two of the three: location, salary, specialty. Most of my classmates seem to be prioritizing location while I'm prioritizing specialty. That is intresting that most of your classmates are leaving the area. I guess I dont mind moving--especially if I can land a job with a good relocation benefit--I just figure I would land a job during my rotations.
