Multiple Interviews over 6 weeks

Recommended Posts

New Graduate in December....Interviewing at several places during the next six weeks with the 1st and last interview being my preferred choices on the surface.  Any suggestions on how to stretch an offer with the first interview until I received an offer from the last interview about 6 weeks later?  Obviously the first interview will have to wait until licensing in Jan, but is it reasonable to request additional time to see what the other interviews offer?  Suggestions on how to approach the subject?

It's appropriate to request -reasonable- time to consider.  6 weeks is far more than reasonable.  Can you move the last interview up at all?  Likely your only option for considering those two should you receive offers for both.  If you tell the first interview you need 6 weeks until you interview at your other top choice it wouldn't surprise me if they showed you the door and declined to offer or rescinded an offer.

You can tell them you have several interviews lined up, but if they make an offer you need to be prepared to consider it or walk away before you get all your other interviews completed.  They probably won't twiddle their thumbs for six weeks while you think about it and could possibly find a candidate they like better, or one who is willing to commit, while you're waiting to see what happens with your other interviews.
