cbrsmurf
offer at another ENT 30% first assist/70% clinic (assist for multiple surgeons) $110k 10 days PTO, sick unknown no CME 401k, unknown matching malpractice and tail med/vision/dental 9-4p w/ 15-60m lunch, 730 start on surgery days start 2pts/hr, i think they expect 3 pts/hr after a few months no rounding or call cons: older clinic/office, no on-site CT scanner, my vibe is this place is somewhat more focused on volume than care, start in 1 month current job after 2.5 years in ENT (+1.5 in FP/UC and heme/onc) $95k (started at $85k w/ +5k raise each year) 10d PTO, 8d sick no CME 401k 2% match malpractice and tail med/vis/dental 730-530-ish with 1.5-2 hr lunch 1d call per week (telephone only) and round 1-2 weekend days a month usually on 1 or 2 pts 2-3 pts/hr cons: work under 1 MD pros: brand new office/equipment, on site CT scanner, compliant pts So my dilemma is that at my current job, I get good support from my SP and I essentially run clinic and staff how I want it. It's also a brand new clinic w/ brand new equipment. I feel like I have plenty of time to see patients and are more focused on quality care vs volume. The 2 hour lunch also allows me to go to the gym, which I like. With the other place, pay and hours seem to be much better, but I got a vibe that the culture is different and probably more focused on volume compared to my current job. I guess I am happy/content with the current job, but would more money or benefits. I don't think I would be as happy at the other clinic if money was not a factor. But the new job would allow me to spend a little more time with my 1 year old. Day care is starting soon as well, which will run about $17,000/year. I am considering counter-offering for $120k and/or $1k CME, pay for PA license and DEA renewals. Not sure what I should tell my current employer; I would feel much stronger about staying for more money. I have a good relationship w/ my current SP and don't want to possibly sour it with the latter option. Would appreciate advice.
mgriffiths
If you like your current job then I would definitely ask to meet with your current SP and discuss the situation. Just make sure you have a game plan that clearly defines what you are looking for to stay. If it were me, I would push for more PTO, CME, and maybe a half day on Fridays without even pushing for a higher salary. You seem to be getting good raises, so let them keep rolling in because you never know what kind of raise you might (or might not) get from the new position - so which position will pay better in 5 years? $5k raise is pretty good. Another comment, the 2% 401k match is pretty low. 3% is more standard and that little 1% can make a pretty big difference over the course of a career, better yet an 8% match like my brother gets (yes, I'm jealous)
