I am patiently (anxiously) waiting to hear back from Heritage U! The letter that I got said that they would let people who applied before July 1 know by August 1 if they will get selected for an interview. Good luck to everyone! tincan Posted August 2, 2016 Share Posted August 2, 2016 I applied as well. Not nuc med though, ER Tech/EMT. Thoughts on the probationary status? Seems like the program fell victim to unfortunate timing of ARC-PA's review schedule, and were placed on probation due to lack of data about student performance (which they don't have due to the young age of the program). The probationary status is exactly what was mentioned above- due to lack of data and not the program itself. Everything that I have seen on this forum just says to be your self and know something about the PA profession. Good luck to you and see you on the 10th! Hey there - had an offer after X-ray school as NM but I decided to do the prerequisites for PA and continue with X-ray, have done some bone densitometry since. It seems many people are a bit lost with the accreditation issues, but the faculty do not seem to be too worried by this. Hence, I'm not worried! I will be there for the 9/10 interview and I am super excited! I'm just worried that I'll botch the interview because of nerves. Good luck to all! I work in a hospital, but not too closely with doctors. I'm also going to be shadowing and I was planning on using the doctors from my shadowing experience for my LORs. The thing is, I highly doubt that they will want to have me shadowing for such a long period of time. I'm wondering if any of you ran into a similar situation and how you might have handled it. I plan on shadowing each reference for 50+ hours but there is no way that will be a six month long relationship. The only option I can think of that wouldn't require additional certification is applying to scribe in the ER, but that's not quite what I wanted to focus on and there aren't going to be job openings for a while. I worked about 2000 hours at a closed doors psychiatric facility as a nursing assistant (Fairfax Behavioral Health) and now I work at Overlake Medical Center as an imaging assistant. The problem with working in Imaging at Overlake is that I'm not in contact with doctors much (other than radiologists... but they lock themselves in the read room all day). I've looked in to clinic work but I don't have MA certification, nor do I want to spend the two years and $$ on obtaining it since I already have a four year degree in Behavioral Neuroscience. I took the GRE with a cumulative score of 313 and a 4.5 in analytical writing. My science GPA is in the 3.6-3.7 range with total cumulative of 3.49 (although most classes I took are were hard science). I am fairly certain that the only thing holding me back are references... I would have applied in this cycle otherwise. I have arranged shadowing at the Overlake Neuroscience Institute, but I'm mostly just unsure about how to maintain a 6 month long relationship with a doctor. Particularly my hospital is a pretty busy place. Scribing is still an option, but as far as I know the pay is like 13$/hr and I wouldn't be able to take care of my bills :( Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Thanks in advance. I don't think that you need 6 months (1000 hrs) of work with the provider that you are getting the LOR from. My understanding is that they need to know you for a significant amount of time, i.e. the six months. I think this is done to make sure that they will get a good reference and to make sure that you are dedicated to the process. Your academic stats look just fine for many programs. Heritage does not require the GRE, so they will not look at the GRE score. The Heritage PA application is designed to favor people with healthcare degrees (nurse, rad tech, MLT, etc..). I would talk to your rads and the PA that you are shadowing and sort of let them know what you are looking for. Try to get 4 hours per month per provider for 6 months and you should be able to meet the minimum LOR requirements. Heritage has open houses and webinars in the spring that will allow you to talk directly to the program coordinators. You can also email them with questions anytime, just be a little patient waiting for a reply as they are starting to conduct interviews now. My advice is to apply next cycle to Heritage, but realize that your LOR might be your weakest part of your application. Use this time to network with people in your organization and to perfect your personal statement. Don't sell yourself short by not applying, you might be surprised...... I applied early enough to meet the 7/1/16 priority deadline, so I waited about two months to get the invite. I am not sure how long it will take you to get a decision because they are gearing up for the first selection conference on 9/10/16. I would not expect anything until mid to late September.
