dphy83
I am searching for a job on behalf of a new grad friend who would like to relocate to Oregon. She is willing to consider any field, as she is willing to choose location over field. She graduates in 3 weeks, so the hiring timeline would have to account for that plus state licensing. She is willing to interview at her own expense if the possibility of hire is legitimate. She is also open to relocating to Seattle, WA - she just seems to really love the Pacific NW. Please message me with any leads or advice. Thanks!
PAMEDIC
There are lots of job openings posted on Indeed.com and heathecareers. The Oregon Society of PAs has a job listing. OHSU lists jobs. Lots of jobs. I just graduated in February and found a really nice job pretty easy. For anybody looking, I would warn that though there are lots of jobs, the people in this town are very slow to respond. It took about a month before I got my first phone calls from employers. After that month, though, I would get a few calls a week. For a while, it was around a new call very day.
Administrator rev ronin Posted July 10, 2016 Administrator Share Posted July 10, 2016 Portland has lots of people wanting to live there, and two well-regarded PA schools who together turn out close to 100 new grads per year.
dphy83
PAMEDIC - I agree, the job boards look pretty full, but a lot of them seem to link the applicant with a recruiter, which hasn't resulted in much for her. A lot of recruiters want the applicant to begin working in short order, and my friend still has a few weeks before graduation. Checked out the OHSU site last night actually, and it had a few interesting postings, so maybe something can happen there. Rev - yeah, we are aware of the nearby programs and are a little bummed about that. Keeping fingers crossed though. If you all know of any small family med clinics or something like that that are looking and don't use the big job boards I'd appreciate the info. Thanks for the replies. Luckyslushy
Anybody have any info about what it's like working for zoom+ ? I'm looking to move out there and see a lot of jobs for this place. In family practice x1 yr now but would love an u/c or fast track ER kind of job.
SPLopez11
I used to work at Zoom+ as an MA (Am currently attending the MWU Glendale PA Program). I feel like it was a hate it or love it situation. It's VERY corporate, and providers have very little ability to effectively enact any sort of change of the many concerns that they have on a day to day basis. Most providers work the "+Care" service line which is essentially acute/urgent care, while there are some more specialized positions (Derm and ER - last time I worked there anyways). I myself want to move back to Portland after school, but I absolutely would not want to work there as a first job. There's no on site supervision and it is very fast paced if you're at a busier clinic (15 min appts x 25/day). The schedule is pretty good and the pay is competitive, but it definitely comes with challenges. My best advice: Read the glassdoor reviews and believe them. If you can see yourself working through all the challenges then you may be a good fit. They were just acquired by hospital (PeaceHealth) so changes are afoot I'm sure. So put that on your radar as well Edited January 5, 2019 by SPLopez11 Submitted before I finished my post

So put that on your radar as well I live in the area. zoomcare is universally considered the worst job in town and the position of last resort. . At the smaller community offices the providers are there alone and have to check patients in, do insurance paperwork, empty trash, clean toilets, etc. Money is ok, but benefits suck. My clinic is looking for a PA in interventional pain management.
PlaceboRita
Hi, I moved away to New Orleans for PA school and would very much like to return after graduation in 2023. I've been monitoring the job sites indeed, peacehealth, providence, Stcharles etc and see postings here and there. I know Oregon is a desirable place to live and I wonder if there's another place/resource/site I'm overlooking? Or is the competition tough in the cities? (Eugene, Pdx, Bend/Redmond, Salem) Since I know I'll be applying against many other seasoned PAs and other Oregon PA students, I'm wondering if it would be wise to stay in New Orleans longer and gain experience before trying to move back home? Just wanting to hear if anyone else has been in this position before and/or other's thoughts on the matter.
