DEA license renewal

Recommended Posts

My understanding is that only physicians have Controlled Substances licenses in Michigan. To add Schedule II to your license, I would think you would just get a new form signed by you and your SP with all the classes of controlled substances they want you to be able to prescribe. At my job both of us signed a letter with license numbers and her DEA# and sent it to the DEA listing "Schedule II, Schedule II limited, Schedule III..."

FYI this will change now March 2017 with the new Public Act 379 law.  PA's are no longer 'designated' prescribers working under a supervising physician which meant both the PA's & the Dr's DEA # had to be on schedule II-V scripts.  Any PA writing for any scheduled meds now has to have their own DEA & Controlled Substance License.  There are a couple other changes that comes with this law & if you're a member of MAPA; they break down the new requirements nicely on their website.
