wamucc
How detailed do the "experience" descriptions need to be? I'm a medic - is it safe to assume they'll understand the tasks, or should I list them (e.g., start IVs, administer meds)? Thanks!
UGoLong
Being a medic can be excellent HCE. I'm biased because that was my background entering PA school. As with any profession, there are vast differences in what a medic does depending on the setting. Do you work in the ER as a tech, do interhospital transports, or are you part of a 9-1-1 service? Do you serve as the in-charge? Do you train new staff? Does your service's protocol allow for unusual advanced procedures and/or meds? Do you have special certifications beyond your state or national card and ACLS, like PALS, PEPP, CPR instructor, Hazmat, ITLS, etc? So describe your job so that the evaluators know what you do in your particular medic job.
wamucc
That's very helpful - I hadn't thought of it like that. Much appreciated! p.s. I clicked through to the book. Is that your story? As a "non-traditional" (older, non-medical undergrad) it give me hope ... so thanks for that, too!
UGoLong
wamucc, The book is my story. It was the experience of a lifetime going back to school and doing this. I'd do it again. And it all started because my wife wanted to take a tour of a new hospital in town when I was a 38 year-old engineer.
