dharmaPA
I am a PA returning to practicing after a hiatus. I had all my 100 Cat 1 CME paid for and nearly completed. But since the NCCPA changed the CME requirements to include 20 credits of Self Assessment CME, now I am looking for suggestions for a way to earn those last 20 SA credits at a minimal cost. I can see the new CME system is designed to shunt more PAs into the AAPA - as with the green O'Connell Recert book and 80Q test for their 20 SA CME credits...but one must be an AAPA fellow member to qualify for these (and other qualifying program) SA credits to the tune of $295 membership. As not working right now this is unanticipated expense. If anyone can suggest something at a lesser cost, that doesn't require jumping thru a bunch of hoops to get it done, I'd greatly appreciate it! Am on the homestretch and eager to get successfully past the PANRE and back to work.

dharmaPA
Thanks for replies...OK so I just am getting there is no way to earn SA CME without going thru AAPA as a member, thus the name Rosh review is $99, but it's done thru AAPA. And - From NCCPA site: "Activities must receive PI-CME or self-assessment credit approval from AAPA to satisfy the new requirements."
GetMeOuttaThisMess
I did Rosh Review last year and haven't been an AAPA member for who knows how long. It just has to be AAPA approved.
cinntsp
Rosh review is $99, but it's done thru AAPA. No it's not. Just go to the Rosh website and sign up.
Guest ERCat
I didn't pay a dime for any of my 100 CME credits. I did the self assessment ones from the American Psychiatry Associstion site. I believe there was a link on the AAPA free CME page. You don't need to be a member to see it I don't think. Regardless it's there on their CME website! HMtoPA
I don't think you need to be an AAPA member to get the 20 SA CME's from the Cert/Recert book, but you do have to create an account (at no cost) on the AAPA's site to print the certificate or something. dharmaPA
OK THANKS Everyone, for clarifying this for me - that's a relief; I created an account with AAPA, and now good to go on the O'Connell SA CME test.
LexaLlewPA-C
Hey There! I'm a new PA-C (passed my PANCE in March this year, whooo!), and I already have my Category 1 Self-Assessment CME hours (20) completed. What I did was, while studying for the PANCE, I used a question book called, PANCE PREP PEARLS QUESTION BOOK which is approved to up to 20 hours of Cat 1 SA CME. All you have to do is purchase the book (on amazon, it's about $40; I'll post the link below), then go to the link (http://www.pancepreppearls.com/cme) and download the "Take Home Assessment" quiz. You have to take 3 quizzes in the book and fill out the remaining information in the document. Then you mail it all in (the address is on the final page of the Take Home Assessment) and within 2 weeks they email and/or snail mail you your certificate. Then just upload your certificate to the NCCPA site and you're all set. Since I was already using the book for studying, I just went through and filled in the bubbles and sent it in. It took about an hour to complete each test, but about 15 min to go back and fill in the bubbles. Also, the book isn't too expensive... I actually lucked out and won a free book on Instagram in a contest hosted by Andrew Reid (from PA Boards) and Dwayne Williams (author of the book), which was pretty awesome :) I hope this helps! dharmaPA
Hey Alexa, Thanks for your input - I was not aware, but now I can utilize that for future..right now is faster to go the O'Connell 80Q route.
Iain1028
Don't worry about it.....they got rid of the SA/PI requirements and now my Rosh Exam Review is worth 30 CMEs and not 20 SA credits. Now, lets get rid of the rectifying exam every 10 years. I propose the PANCE with x 2 10 year PANREs. After that, and if in good standing, one should not have to take the rectifying exam after 20 years of practice. Sound good?
dharmaPA
Right. I did fulfill the reqs, while they were in place. NCCPA keeps shifting the terrain, and still is trying to latch on the take home /specialty exams. I like your idea of max 2 PANRES, but that won't help me, will be retired by then. Plus I'm pretty sure they will resist that if it means loss of revenue for them. But that does not mean PAs should not be involved in the process.
