tunafish Posted May 3, 2016 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Maybe someone dealt with a situation like this... reputable employer posting a job ad, after the initial phone interview they offer to pay for the cross-country flight, hotel etc to come to the interview, but would not disclose the salary range and any specs on PTO, bonuses and CME stating "that would be in a offer letter, we are competitive". MT2PA Posted May 3, 2016 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Either they A: aren't competitive but want to guilt you into signing since they flew you out or B: they ARE competitive and KNOW they are and flying applicants out ensures they get the best. And maybe they offered to fly you out bc you are one the best applicants they have. Maybe they want applicants who actually want the job and aren't just jumping aboard for a nice paycheck.... Reality Check 2 Posted May 3, 2016 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Agree with MT2PA They either want to WOW you with their practice, location, etc and then give you the $$ details or they want to see if you are serious and not jumping after a dollar figure. I agree - if they are paying to bring you out there - go, enjoy - see the sites, see if it is somewhere you would want to live. My experience - I drove around and looked at houses, dropped into a grocery store and looked at the top 5 things my family buys, looked at gas prices, traffic and the local amenities. Watched the local news to see what the big stink was in town. Got a feel for whether or not I could see myself there in 10 years - or even 5. One practice wanted me to be thrilled with the local sites and take their pitiful salary. I was excited about the locale but told them at that point in my career that my student loans would not accept a picture of a mountain as payment..... Enjoy! I think they try to keep that info somewhat private so you dont go try a "price match" with another employer and undermine them financially. My guess anyway. Or, they want you to see how serious you are before talking compensation. Which I think is kind of silly, but that's the way they do business. mgriffiths Posted May 4, 2016 Share Posted May 4, 2016 I'm in the process of applying and have not run into this issue. Every place that I have talked with has been pretty open with their salaries. A few I basically told them their salaries were too low and that unless they were willing to increase to a ballpark figure we would be wasting both of our times. So I'll miss negative temps all winter. I'll miss April and May mornings being in the teens and twenties? How Maine is so windy we can hardly paddleboard? How the houses are disgusting and cost of living is high in the area? :) there's plenty to miss about Maine, but there's not much that can't be matched elsewhere.
