HoCroPA
Hello - I just received a UC offer and hope to run it by you all. Any input is welcome. Thank you in advance! This position would be working at an office that is part of a larger system with one doctor, a RT, and two MAs. Full x-ray and lab on-site. Would have 3 training shifts (at full salary) before seeing patients on my own. Salary: 90K base with 5% production bonus and 5% performance bonus annually with possibility to earn higher percentages in years 2+. No base increase with more years worked. Shifts: Thirteen 12 hour shifts/month, 9a-9p, 48hrs have to be weekend hours. Call: 3 on-call shifts/month (2 weekdays, 1 weekend day) where I would only be called in if someone was out sick or volume was very high. No compensation unless called in, then would be salary + bonus. Volume: Max 3 patients/hour. Includes DOT/sports physicals as well as procedures Time Off: No PTO/sick days - instead of PTO can select 5 days/month off. For any other days can trade among the PAs Holidays: No holiday differential (rotating holiday coverage) CME: $1000 CME allowance (may be negotiable), no days off Malpractice: occurrence based, tail-coverage paid for if needed, 1mil/3mil limits Other: Reimbursement for licensure/certification/BLS & ACLS. Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 1, 2016 Moderator Share Posted February 1, 2016 cme is low as is retirement. no pto is a bummer. 100k as a new grad isn't too bad though and guarantee of no more than 3/hr is nice. what about mentoring, etc? schedule is nice. I would love 13 12s. do they cover acls, pals, etc outside of cme? what about memberships(aapa, etc). who pays dea, licenses?
RuralER/Ortho
How are bonuses determined? What is the likelihood of actually acheiving them? No PTO is a real bummer. Tough to take a vacation trying to cobble 5 days off together-this can depend on office culture as well. Tough to know ahead of time. Are the docs prepared to mentor some? Will they pay for DOT training and testing? Sounds like a decent gig especially if it's where you want to be and what you want to do.
HoCroPA
Thank you both for responding! I was sent my formal contract the other day, so here's a bit more information: - Negotiated $2500 sign-on bonus instead of increased annual CME - Can pick up one extra shift a month for $53/hr that is eligible for the bonus % on top of it - ACLS/PALS/recertifications/DEA/licensing, etc are all covered ... but NOT professional memberships - Performance bonus is determined by patient reviews (every patient can leave a review before they leave the office) - Productivity bonus is determined by getting an average of 80% of patients in and out within 45min depending on acuity - 2 year contract initially with auto-renew one year contracts, but I work in an employment-at-will state so they just require 90 days notice I have been told that the docs are happy to have new-grad PAs and are absolutely prepared to mentor. And speaking with some current employees they say that the schedulers are able to work with providers to set up vacations
melhhn330
HoCroPA - I am just reading this as I am searching the forum for information about Boston. I am an Urgent Care PA in Pennsylvania moving to Boston in June 2017, by then I will have 2 years of UC experience including DOT physicals. Are you happy at your job? Would you mind sharing where you work (maybe by private message), it sounds great!
