paforlife100
Hello everyone. I have a question regarding two schools: Adventist University of Health Science (Orlando, FL) and Florida International University (Miami, FL). If I get to choose between the two, which one is better (rotations, environment, etc)? Please advise.
OLW2018
Have you had a chance to tour both schools and areas yet? Miami and Orlando are very different, so checking the areas out could definitely help with your decision. I didn't apply to FIU, because I'm not very fond of Miami. However, I was accepted to ADU and I loved it! ADU is interviewing their second class this cycle to start in May, so its definitely a very new program. They're located in downtown Orlando across the lake from Florida Hospital. I really liked the new facilities at ADU, the curriculum, and their rotations -- which are all with Florida Hospital, so I'm anticipating a great clinical year. Downtown Orlando isn't the greatest location, but I was also able to find a relatively safe and affordable apartment near campus. I really liked that the program included two mission trips with the class, local and domestic, and that the cadavers in lab are new and dissected by the PA students. I'm not sure how it is at FIU, but I'm sure there's great reasons to go to there as well. I believe they opened a new medical school, so I'm sure its super nice! paforlife100
Hello OLW2018, Thank you so much for your reply! I had interviews at both schools. Are you a current student? :) Did you get to choose other rotation sites or just Florida Hospitals?
OLW2018
I am not a current student -- I was accepted for their upcoming class that starts this May. Have you heard back from either program yet? The program seems to prefer students do rotations with Florida Hospital since they're so closely affiliated, but I imagine the clinical coordinator could be open to other ideas.. FH is a pretty large network of hospitals in Central Florida based in Orlando, though, so you'd get some great exposure in each specialty. With its location in downtown Orlando, there's also a pretty big demand for trauma, emergency medicine, and surgery, which I enjoy. Its a great rotation site from what I have heard.
