Denial :(

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I received the "letter" in the mail a couple days ago. I'm very frustrated! This school is my top pick, and it's the second year that I received the letter stating that "admission is very competitive". I applied very early this year, in hopes to get an interview. I wish I could find out what I need to improve on to become more competitive with the other applicants. In the last year, I took more science classes, volunteer at a hospital, and shadowed a PA. I can only assume that it is my PS that is lacking.

Has anyone been in a situation like this and been able to get better feedback from the school? I am already in my mid 40's, and am kicking myself that I may need to try again next year (for the 3rd time!). I am still waiting to hear from 3 other schools, hopefully they will pan out better.

Any advise???

Your guess is as good as mine. I have no clue what schools are looking for other than being able to make it through a rubric. Frankly, after a phone call to an upper tier nursing school and them saying I'm in over the phone, I ask myself, why not just go to that and then go to NP school right after. I'm more than a little frustrated as well and hope that it goes better for you next year. I doubt there will be a next year for me.

I would not make the assumption that it is your PS. there is your GPA, is it above 3.5???, do you have paid HCE? do you have direct pt contact, if not care???? you shadowed ONE PA??

research what are the average stat admissions for your school of preference. I was also an older non-trad student. applied two yrs running to the school in my backyard..found out by talking to their staff and to former students (could talk while shadowing them too) that a prior bad experience with 2 older students put them off non-trad's re age. my 3rd year I applied to 10 school, got interviews at 7, and accepted at my 1st choice. they are NOT going to say to you "you are pretty old and we don't think you can cut the mustard..so sorry", but ask about non-trads they HAVE accepted. good luck:smile:

I'm sorry about your denial, CaliOne. I interviewed in October 2012, but was rejected a week after. My Bachelor's degree is in Biology and myGPA is/was above a 3.5 (approximately 400 hours HCE experience). Other people I interviewed with individuals that were accepted with lower GPAs-- even one with a construction management degree. I am confused about my rejection, but have continued gaining HCE and taking recommended courses since then, to make me a more competitive applicant. Good luck!
