kristinamk94
Just looking to get some ideas on different ways I can volunteer and what people have done in the past or currently for the volunteer/health care experience requirements?! What makes an individual stand out?
Administrator rev ronin Posted October 21, 2015 Administrator Share Posted October 21, 2015 The best volunteering is that which stretches for years before PA school application. If you've just been doing it for box-checking, it'll show, but I'm not sure how much that matters since that's most of what most pre-PAs are doing. Don't confuse volunteering and HCE. Some schools explicitly will not count volunteering hours as HCE, while most have no problem with it.
newton9686
I worked with a licensed clinical social worker and at risk children. It really developed me as a person and as an applicant.
Disco Lafleur
There are lots of really great opportunities out there. Look at what the red cross is doing in your area. If you're religious do something through your church, or even if you're not. I personally did a bunch of different things from being a youth soccer coach, to helping kids learn about anatomy and physiology, to teaching sunday school, and others. There are lots of great, fulfilling opportunities out there. If you're in school, there is probably a service organization of some kind that could help you out.
