Chances of getting into a PA program this year

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I want to apply to PA schools this year.  I realize that most of the students applied to PA programs in April, May of 2015 and many have started getting interview calls.  I started my preparations for PA school in Jan of 2015 and did not complete my prerequisites till yesterday.  I plan to submit my application in CASPA by next week.  My stats are as follows:

Anatomy and Physiology with lab:  B

Microbiology with lab: B

Biochemistry with lab: B

Psychology:  A

Statistics:  A

Chem 1 with lab: A

Chem 2 with lab: A

Bio with lab: A

I think my cumulative GPA is around 3.4

More than 1000 hrs of direct patient care experience in a foreign country

approximately 600 hrs of direct patient care experience in USA

550 hrs of PA shadowing

More than 1000 hrs of volunteer work experience

3 publications

7 months of research experience

I wanted an honest opinion on what are my chances of getting into a PA Program this year.  Should I even bother to apply this late in the cycle?

Thank you

It's starting to get late, and some programs have an August deadline, but it's not too late yet.  Grades look good, the publications won't hurt.  HCE hours are a bit low, but not outrageously so.  What was the direct care experience?

Consider programs that do not use rolling admission.  Either way, odds aren't too bad for you.  Good luck.

Have all your transcripts been received and references submitted?  Keep in mind your application's completion will be contingent upon at least 2 of your references completing their letters. If you have already filled out the CASPA and are ready to submit then go for it!

I think your stats look pretty good! You are probably on the higher end of shadowing and volunteer hours compared to what I have seen get accepted into PA school. It doesn't hurt to apply. You'll never know if you get in or not. If you don't get in, there is always next year and a lot of schools will prefer re-applicants. I would also follow cop to pa's advice. Look for those programs that do not use rolling admissions. You will have a better chance at those schools since applications have been open for a few months.

What are you guys talking about. It is not late at all. I submitted my app on Oct 1 last year and received interviews to all schools i applied to and these schools had oct/nov deadlines. I was part of the last group to get interviewed for two schools but nonetheless still got interviews.

i think you have a good chance with your stats. Definitely apply. GPA is average. HCE is good not amazing but good. Apply wisely though.

I love your response. This is everything; "What are you guys talking about"? Hahaha. Anyway, this response made me feel better. I am super stressed because I JUST submitted my applications... TODAY. I'm panicking because I feel like time, amongst other things, is against me. Where did you apply and where did you land interviews? If you don't mind me asking?!
