2015-2016 Application Cycle

I was verified May 14th. I applied last year and didn't hear about anything for quite a while. The waiting game is painstaking. I think that the fact that I was still finishing some pre-reqs and didn't have a letter from a PA worked against me, so I changed those things for this cycle. Good luck! :)

Yeah, I was reading through the post from last year's cycle. I am applying through CASPA for the first time. I hope that the adcom will acknowledge your effort and improvement as a stronger candidate this year. Best of luck to you!

I got an email that they are starting to review applications now.

Tonette said my general Chemistry course does not fulfill the inorganic chemistry prerequisite requirement because it is an introductory course. But the course I took was one for Biology and pre-med students. She's dismissing it on the basis of it being called "Principles of Chemistry", and 'principles' mean introductory.

I offered to show her my course syllabus where it says it's for science majors, but she seems pretty rigid about it, so I'm not going to get my hopes up. Pretty disappointed I won't be considered for admission.

That's ridiculous! Some school's inorganic chemistry IS the general chemistry class unless you take upper division inorganic chemistry classes. That is very strange. Most schools accept general chem as inorganic chem right?

side note, the "supplemental questions" on caspa had such loaded questions for 1000 characters. "Describe how your personal and/or professional experiences reflect at least three of the core values of the Samuel Merritt University Physician Assistant Program as described on our website?" It's going to be so general if it's only 1000 characters!

Hi all! I called today to ask if they received my application (verified 7/17) because I haven't gotten a confirmation. She sends them out the 15th of every month, so I was right after the cut off, I should be getting it soon. She reviews them initially and then they go to the committee. They won't start reviewing until October, so we have to keep waiting!

Fingers crossed!

Hey everyone. I just received the confirmation email yesterday. According to the email, it sounds like we most likely won't hear back from SMU regarding interview invites until November. See below for the full details.

-----

Thank you for your application to the Master Physician Assistant program at Samuel Merritt University. This email confirms we have received your application from CASPA and it is under review. Our review process will begin this summer and continue throughout the fall. When we review your application, we will notify you by email if we need any additional information or documents. Please do not send us transcripts of courses you have completed since you submitted your CASPA application; we do not go back and recalculate GPA’s based on recently completed classes. We assume you will successfully complete all classes indicated as in progress on your application. Do not send resumes, additional letters of recommendation, certificates, updates to your health care experience hours, etc. We only look at and consider the information we require as part of the standardized application. As a reminder, we do not require the GRE’s and do not have a supplemental application.

We will begin sending out interview invitations in November and will continue to invite candidates to interview as space permits until the interview process is completed. We have a total of 144 interview slots. It is very likely you will not hear from us before that time. Invitations come directly from the PA department and not through the Office of Admission. All applicants will know their final admission status by the beginning of March. We notify every one of their final status by email. A tentative timeline for this admission cycle is on our website at http://www.samuelmerritt.edu/physician_assistant/admission_timeline.

We respectfully request that you do not call us regarding your current application status. Please know that we have your application, it will go through our review process and we will email you if we need any additional information or clarification of any information throughout the review process.

Again, thank you for your interest in and application to the MPA program at Samuel Merritt University!

This is ludicrous.  From my experience, a true "inorganic chemistry" course requires several chemistry pre-requisites (I should know as I have taken many chemistry courses). The general (intro) chemistry course you took should be sufficient preparation for you, and moreover it was designed for premed students.  It is so sad that you won't be able to apply because of this.

I completely agree! How did you go about this? I felt like my little paragraph was so insufficient. They asked us to address 3 core values!
