>3 evaluations?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, is anyone else planning to include more than three evaluations?

I know plenty of schools ask for no more than three letters of recommendation. So should I add the three I definitely want the schools to see (PA, MD, and research professor) FIRST, then add supplemental ones after? That seems like the way to go but I wanted to get some input. Thanks!

You should only submit the number of letters your programs are asking for. Therefore, if you are applying to (for example) 12 programs and you end up having to submit four letters to satisfy their requirements, then submit four. There is no need to submit five, as programs will only review and consider the letters they require. Furthermore, you should submit letters from authors they are looking for - so for some, PA, MD, and research may not satisfy their requirement.

Would anyone know how we should go about submitting evaluations that certain schools require and other don't? For example, some of my choices want an MD, PA and supervisor/ PA and another program wants a PA, MD and science faculty member. Will the programs go through your evaluations and pick out the ones they want?

You cannot do this. If you submit three evaluations, all programs you apply to will see those three evaluations. If you submit five evaluations, all programs you apply to will see all five evaluations. We added the maximum of five evaluations for those applicants who are applying to multiple programs but cannot meet the letter requirements with a maximum of three - applicants were having to send letters individually directly to programs. This takes care of that. With that said, programs know how this works and are instructed to only review those letters that are relevant to their requirements. So, if you meet the requirements for the letters the program wants but end up submitting two more that they don't require, they're not going to look at those two letters instead of what they required (and received) and say you didn't meet the requirement.

Make sense?

Thank you,

Danielle

What if a school requires two from health care professionals (lets say either PA or MD) and one from a professor that can speak to your academic qualifications and you submit 4 total LORs (2 PAs, 1 MD and 1 professor). Do they then pick randomly which health care professional LOR they choose to read? Or would they read all?
