would it make it harder in interview if I apply now for nursing as back up plan

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about applying into nursing program as my plan B, just in case I wont be selected for PA program.  My question is, do you think the committee in interview  would know about my new application; thinking it would raised a question "why did you apply for nursing?

thx

A few things:

Why would you apply for nursing?

You don't need to go on a forum and hear the opinions of strangers to find out that answer.

If you are applying to a PA program and don't get in and are content with going to a nursing program, then odds are you don't really want to be a PA. But what do I know, why don't you go on a nursing forum and ask if it will hurt your chances if you also apply to a PA program.

Most pa programs are not happy to hear that you're interested in nursing as a plan B because they are very different roles, however personally I can understand why you want to have a back up plan since it is difficult to get into pa school . Personally I don't think they would know that you applied and I doubt they check that but it could come up if you're applying at the same school .

I had an accelerated nursing program as my back-up plan, luckily I heard from a PA program and am now class of 2017. When my interviewers asked what I would do if I didn't get into PA school this time around, I told them about the nursing program. It couldn't have bothered them too much considering I will be starting school in July.

Good luck on PA school!

This is obviously an old thread, but to the naysayers of having a Plan B...I certainly understand the importance of demonstrating your dedication to the adcom about becoming a PA, and it being your top priority, but at the end of the day you do need to eventually be able to put food on the table and roof over your head. If you have tried relentlessly getting into a PA program for several application cycles and it doesn't work out for you, then by all means cast your net to the nursing schools as well...we can all have dreams but sometimes it is important to be realistic. Just my two cents.
