Dynamo24
I was browsing around on Mayo's site and found these two fellowships in Minnesota. Apologizes if these have been posted already: EM: http://www.mayo.edu/mshs/careers/nurse-practitioner/nurse-practitioner-or-physician-assistant-emergency-medicine-fellowship-minnesota Critical care: http://www.mayo.edu/mshs/careers/nurse-practitioner/nurse-practitioner-or-physician-assistant-critical-care-fellowship-minnesota
SoCalPA
Nice find!! Excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between EM and CC? Is CC more like Trauma? Is the training interchangeable? If one goes the CC route can that time be counted towards the 18 months req for the EM CAQ? Hoping someone can answer.

EMEDPA has mentioned in the past that the skills acquired in CC do translate to EM and vice versa. As for the time counting towards the CAQ, I am not sure about that, I would assume no since you aren't in an ED setting. Either way, if you did a CC fellowship and stuck with CC as your main gig post completion, if you worked 12's in an ICU, there would be nothing stopping you doing a per diem gig in an ER some where on an off day. In fact, they would probably appreciate your "upstairs" experience in the ER.

CAQ requires 18 months specifically in em. CC is ICU medicine.
Moderator ventana Posted March 10, 2015 Moderator Share Posted March 10, 2015 As EM has said before there is some overlap (if you are practicing at the very top of your license - i.e. main side ER) between CC and ER - managing really sick and dying patients. (level 4-5 patients) I would say there is very little cross over for the express/urgent care PA or even if you are in the pods/middle triage (level 1-3 patients - as long as they have been triage correctly ;-)
GreatChecko
The mayo EM residency seems really well put together. Email the program if you have any questions, they are very receptive. I would have applied, but I had to stay east for personal reasons.
