depends. when I did it I got 10% over base rate to run a group of 12 PAs and NPs. I did the scheduling, hiring/firing/discipline etc. Endless 7 am mandatory staff mtgs after getting off work at 2 am.

It wasn't worth it. I did it for 2 years and was happy to give it up.

The lead PA at my current job bills straight time for time spent writing the schedule. other than that he gets no benefit out of it.

I get a stipend prorated over the year on a monthly basis.

Extra 1250 per month.

For that I deal with scheduling, EMR, attend meetings, available within reason to backfill shifts on short call out, QA on radiology reads and 72 hr returns.

I have discussion with our PA staff about cases, interactions with staff and consultants when needed, try to run interference and provide insight at times.

And then generally try to set a good example.

One thing I decided to do a while ago with the clear understanding from our group was to work as little at night as possible.

Had my first full year without a night shift. Makes life a lot easier with those meetings E spoke of.

You need to have a clear understanding of what is expected of the position and why it is being created.

Is there an adjustment of clinical hours to reflect this new job or an addition to?

Was there a prior chief and why the departure?

Finally before you accept, do a little introspection. Are you perturbed or upset when others do stupid things or act in ways they shouldnt? Do you get angry? Take it personally? Are you ok with difficult people? Are you ok with not everyone liking you? Are you able to see two sides to most arguments? Do you listen or do you just act?

Good luck.
