PA laws in Ohio

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm working in Occupational Medicine in Southern Ohio as my first job. It doesn't seem like the Ohio PA board is very active here. I am having difficulty finding laws for PAs for Ohio. Does anybody have a link as to how many of our charts need to be signed off on, what restrictions we have in terms of satellite clinics, etc?

Thanks,

Zach

I don't know about chart review except for your prescribing rights.  For your 1st 1000 hours, the supervising physician who signed for your provisional prescribing rights needs to "review" all your charts.  After you get your full prescribing rights there's no requirements.  I believe my charts are reviewed sporadically at best - primarily if there was a complaint.  I do EM.

In Ohio, the current wording of the law is that a PA may only work "in a place where the physician routinely practices".  This does not require that the doc be there at the same time as the PA, only that they work at that location on a regular (not necessarily frequent) basis.  The proposed law will change that to "where the physician has oversight and control" - opening up retail clinics etc to PA's.

Your best informaiton will come from the Ohio Medical Board web site.
