PA School Decision-Making

Recommended Posts

Thanks @m0nte7! Yeah the fact that these two programs are 10k more seems like a big deal-breaker...Money isn't a problem for me in traveling to the interviews.  I guess I'm dreading more all the stress/pain/anxiety from the interview process xD. Both Le-Moyne and Weill Cornell have a timed essay, group interview, and individual interview that lasts from 8am-2:30pm.

Not sure if ranking has any accuracy towards quality of programs....Salus is #108, Le Moyne=#70, Cornell=#43.

5 year first time taker average PANCE pass rate however:

1) Salus-94% (http://www.salus.edu/physicianAssistant/pa_certifingExam03.24.2014.pdf)

2)Le Moyne-93% (https://www.lemoyne.edu/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=AzaeXET6mOU%3D&tabid=666)

3)Cornell-92% (http://weill.cornell.edu/education/programs/pdf/5_year_pass_rate.pdf)

I would say that rankings aren't even a big deal. As you researched, Salus surprisingly came in ahead. I would just end the stressful cycle of admissions and take the seat. I'm in a similar position where I'm finding out whether I'll be accepted to a school in December, while I have the possibility for interviews in January. I'll most likely just take the offer immediately and never look back.

If you've already had a successful interview, these subsequent ones should not be a problem since you've been through the gauntlet and came on top. I went to two interviews, but only because I applied to 18 programs, so I felt I should have at least two options, but I winged the second one and still got accepted, as the interviews questions were similar. Both interviews had writing samples, panel interviews and/or one-on-one. It won't be as stressful as you think if you decide to go.

@bcao1 Salus's interview was veryy relaxed. There was no group interview or timed essay. The "interview" had very run of the mill questions with 3 PA professors that seemed to like to go off tangent a lot more than actually ask me relevant questions haha. I definitely feel under-prepared for these two other interviews.

I guess I'm very much leaning towards Salus right now that it's making me question if it's practical to interview these other schools.....
