lsmith21
During clinicals, especially when you have them far away from your home campus, what do people do for their living situations? Do you keep a residence near your program the entire clinical year and rent out places temporarily for the individual clinical rotations? Do you even need to have a place to return to near your school during the clinical year?
dennisred
I just realized this question closely resembles a question recently posted, and I apologize for that. My main question that is unanswered is, do PA students keep residence near their school for all of clinical year, even if their clinical sites are distant? Administrator rev ronin Posted November 25, 2014 Administrator Share Posted November 25, 2014 It varies. I sublet rooms in my rental house to my classmates when I was away on rotations and took my family with me. The students subletting had abandoned their apartments and moved their stuff into storage or with friends.
dmdpac
It depends what your rotation schedule looks like. Most of my rotations were local with a couple that were not. I kept my apartment so I had a place to come back to after the travel rotation was completed (and so I'd have a place to live after graduation). Some of my classmates, however, did all their rotations on the road. They gave up their apartment, put what they had in storage, and lived out of suitcases for the clinical year. You will return to campus after each rotation (or after every second rotation depending on your program's practice). It's usually only for a couple days. My classmates who were traveling either stayed with family or friends or they got a hotel room. One of my classmates crashed on my couch for each end of rotation exam session. Evaluate your rotation schedule and locations. Look at your finances. Weigh your options. If you need to do something like what Rev Ronin described and sublet while you're away you have an option. If you need to give up your housing and travel then you still have an option. The travel can be stressful but it isn't new to the process. You will have options and there are others who've gone before you from whom you can ask advice.
