You Know You Are A PA When ...

Recommended Posts

when you ask the SP to see a patient and he does a full exam and walks out of the room and tells you to dictate the exam like it was your own.

(BTW I refused)

How long do you all have, is there a limit? Lol

I see all acute sick, call ins and walk-ins.

You examine a sick patient diagnose and treat them and at the end of the visit the patient says: "I understood that I had to see you but I really need a RX so can I get an appointment with the Dr.?

SAY WHAAT?!?! |:-O I wrote the script .... Smh

Banker:  "Hey doc, I'll write you a check for $150,000 right now to start your clinic."

Me: "Remember, I'm not a physician, I'm a PA."

Banker: "Oh damn . . . what about a Starbucks card and a lollipop?"

um, actually I can't give you the starbucks card unless your sp signs for it...caffeine is a drug after all.....

You want to go the the AFPPA meeting and they deny your request because the physician doesn't want to work alone, ever.  But the PA works alone every Friday and when the physician in on vacation, hunting, going on business trips seeking the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for his genomic lab test idea, all paid for by the clinic.

When they deny you a payout for the CME $ you were unable to use because they denied you going to the AFPPA meeting.

When a patient asks: Is there another doctor here other than you?

"i'm a PA, not a physician".  There is one doctor here, Dr. XYZ.

Patient:  I'd rather see you.

You do the full workup for someone who presents with the CC: I think I'm turning yellow.  After the final diagnosis is made of pancreatic cancer the SP gets the follow up letter from oncology and  GI specialists outlining the course of history of the patient, and the PA is never recognized for doing all the work, sending them the referrals, and working with the patient to get them to the right treatment program.

When you order a CT Abd Pelvis bc you suspect an appy or some other anomoly like pacreatic CA or an US to r/o ectopic and the radiologts calls emergently to let your SP know positive results bc they dont "want anything to fall through the cracks" Your SP calls back to where you are working and ask, so tell me about John Doe. (Bc the Pt isnt even on the SPs radar yet). Ps-most the Rads call the ordering provider but now and then we are reminded we are PAs.

Every now and then there's a nice pat on the back....

One of the docs in our group told me my notes are the best out of anyone in the group and when there's a call about someone I've seen he can read my notes and know EXACTLY what's going on with that patient

He especially likes the way I document "if x doesn't work or patient doesn't tolerate it, try x next"

I'm the only PA in the group and THANKFULLY I'm not on call. That's the best part :-))

^^^^^^ Do you ever fight back for recognition?

You know your a PA when the SP doesn't publicly acknowledge you were the one who caught the carotid dissection.
