sad day

Recommended Posts

Earlier today I talked with the psychiatrist of one of our patients. She has been wonderful in coordinating his care with us. Sadly she is leaving her practice in a few months.

Her exact words: "I didn't get into this to have to deny care so many people and I just can't do it anymore." She was crying as she said this and I couldn't help but cry along with her.

Now there will be one less psychiatrist to help the many thousands of people who have such limited access to mental health care in Oregon.

This is just wrong on so many levels. Sad day

I think this is a very real issue and is only going to get worse in the future

The same as HMO's were touted as the cure, then became evil, I think the current system is swinging towards the ridiculous right now..

I get between 100-150/house call - 30-90 minutes of work plus drive time

a friend just went to a a derm - say the PA as a new patient, - just got EOB and they got $150 from the insurance company.

So the exact same certification of PA - her visit in the office for 10 min is valued the same or more as my house calls that are 2-6 times longer.....   no wonder IM providers are leaving in droves...

The icing on the cake is when the specialists push all the prior auth paperwork back to the PCP -

NO WAY - I tell them that they are ordering it, and they can do the paperwork... heck they are making 2-5x's what I do, so they can absorb it....
