2014-2015 Cycle Applicants

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,
I applied for the 2014-2015 cycle that just opened up. Has anyone else applied? I've been reading on previous threads and looks like we have quite a bit of waiting to do until we hear anything. Maybe we can keep each other company during this long nerve-racking adventure. Goodluck everyone!

I applied the day the application opened and just sent in everything last week. Still haven't received a confirmation on whether they have received all my materials. I hope to hear something quick because I've been offered an interview at another program...and I'd really like to stay in state! I'm glad I found this and it's comforting to know I'm not alone in this torture!

I believe the cycle the just opened is for the class beginning in 2016. If it helps, this past year I applied in January, confirmed everything in early Februray, interview invite in March, interview in April and accepted a week after interview. The whole application process and interview was really relaxed with the Mercer faculty and they really do look at the applicant as a whole and weigh every aspect into consideration.

@QueenEmile - I am! I have a friend who is starting there in January so I'm gonna be sure to ask her some questions.

@cg02186 - Thanks for your input :) It's always nice to see a timeline of other's application process. All my documents were verified a couple of days ago, so I'm guessing I'm not going to hear back until around November.

I'm a first time applicant to Mercer. I've heard great things and am excited about possibly joining the program! I received a confirmation email stating my application is complete and under review. Have you guys gotten any more news? @queenemile @csashley?

@edoll:

I have not gotten anymore news aside from the application completion email. Buttttt... I dropped my money order off in person to pay for the supplemental application, and I believe I spoke to Roland Benoit, he said I was in the first batch of applicants that they will review (so pretty much anyone who has submitted their apps in October or beginning of November will be as well)... and it is likely that they should be running the first round of interviews before Christmas...Also, I could be wrong, but he gave me the impression that there was not that many people who have applied thus far. I guess we'll see!!

@QueenEmelie:

That is actually really comforting to hear. Has anyone applied to GRU? Being cheaper I'm just assuming that anyone who applied to Mercer also applied to GRU. I submitted my application there back in JULY and my status is still 'Ready for Review'. They're also really bad about answering e-mails, but I don't want to keep pestering them. Patience is a virtue...

Hello! I applied to GRU as well and just recently interviewed there. The staff indicated that they, like most other programs, are dealing with a larger than normal number of applications. They also said that the "ready to review" status doesn't change even if your file is being reviewed. I don't know if that info helps or not but i thought I'd pass it along to you. I'm with you though....the waiting is torture! Best of luck to you!!

Ah thank you! That explains a lot - I'm sure the cost plays a key factor in people wanting to go there. I know this is a Mercer board, but since I have you here...what was the interview process like there?

Hey guys I just sent everything over today! I am a first time applicant to Mercer but a 4th year trying to get into a school. I stumbled upon this program and felt like I found a diamond in the rough! I spoke with the program director today and he said they were going to try and do a huge interview session before the holidays! I am so excited! Goodluck to everyone!

@edoll yeah Mercer is the program I chose to attend. I start in January so I can't speak to being a student there yet but after going to the info session and interview I knew that's where I would go if accepted. The staff seems to sincerely enjoy teaching the students. I liked that they have a cadaver lab, an ortho rotation, two electives, the pharmacology teacher is both a PA and pharmacist, and a bunch of other stuff. I would definitely recommend going to an information session as you learn a ton about the program and get a chance to speak with staff and students. Good luck and feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Hey, good luck to you who have applied or will apply for the class starting 2016. My name is Rob and I'm currently in Mercer's graduating class of 2016 and will soon finish the 3rd semester. I know Mercer has a couple of interviews in December so get your app in ASAP. IMHO, getting an earlier interview is better for you. The later you wait to apply, the more competition you'll have with a greater # of applicants. The people who review your app will have fewer apps to review which increases your chance of standing out.

When it comes down to it, you'll need more than the basic requirements to get in. With only 50 seats in the program and a ton of applications your benchmark isn't meeting the prereq's. It's being an outstanding person which translates into a great application.

From what I've heard, Mercer already has nearly 200 apps. Feel free to ask me any questions you have, just be patient on the response time though as finals are coming up and the schedule is thick.

Best of luck to you all and i hope to see you at the interviews in December!

Mercer Class of 2016

Hi Robambrell, thanks for the info! Congrats on being in school! I have a question about your statement regarding being an outstanding applicant. I am currently working at the UF Cancer Center as an EMT/ phlebotomist, as well as previous experience in a pediatric urgent care. I have over 3000 hours of experience and growing lol. I have good GRE scores and letters of recommendation. However my GPA is only a 3.04 but my post baccalaureate GPA is a 4.0. I heard Mercer really does look at the whole applicant. Do feel that in my case they will look at my whole application and not just my GPA?

Jdizzl11, Sounds like you have some sweet experience. They do look at the entire applicant. All those categories they have: GPA, GRE, work hours, etc...are ways to narrow down reviewing applicants. 3.04 is fine if the rest of your "story" is dynamic, intriguing, etc...As long as you're above those minimums, I believe you app will be considered. The personal statement is the key to getting an interview in most cases. Of course, I'm not a prophet or anything and nor am not on the admissions committee. But in my personal experience, the statement is what makes you stand out from hundreds of other applicants. My scenario sounds similar to yours, though my HCE was different. If you haven't applied yet, apply asap. Let me know if you have any other questions!!! Best of luck to you, Jdizzl11!

Thanks Rob! I applied already and my app was complete 11/11 :) Fingers crossed!
