Any PA volunteering as a SWAT LEO?

Recommended Posts

Nice, do you happen to know the process by which one would be able to volunteer their time? Short tactical med training? I'm just curious how healthcare professionals become part of the team
? I assume they're valuable or the PD wouldn't even bother and just train EMT cert guys

NYPD ESU (their version of SWAT) used to have a member who was a practicing PA; don't know if he's still active.

The first step would likely be speaking with your local PD and finding out if they even want an outside party as their medical provider.  Some departments prefer to use LEO's with EMT/medic certification rather than civilians; this way they don't have to worry about keeping you safe in a hot zone environment.  If you don't have prior prehospital experience you might find this to be a very different world than that of a typical PA.  As far as tactical training, I'd suggest starting with TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) for a good introduction to tactical medicine.

Thank you for the course information! I'll look into it
