Just curious to see how this forum stacks up to the data floating around. Please only vote if you are currently working as a PA-C.

BLS.gov is currently showing $90,930 as the national average and AAPA reported ~$95,000 (could be wrong on that one)

Yes, I know this is the internet but please vote truthfully

I think it depends on your job. I work 4 - 10's for my regular job and between 2-3 per diem shifts per month. I don't have kids (yet) and my husband works 80+ hrs per week so I am home much more than he is- we decided to spend a year or two out of school working as much as we felt able to pay off bills and loans. We still live in a very expensive city so those extra shifts allow me to pay off loans a little faster/save for a down payment.

PA jobs, esp in hospital, can often be on schedule. Meaning 40 hours a week. As opposed to a guy in corporate world easily working 50+ hours in a typical work week. Again, not all PAs have this schedule but I think for many it is a pretty organized sign out. As a result one could easily work a bit extra and it not necessarily be a burden. I would also say more PAs hopefully move into academics, precepting, admin and hopefully that comes with extra salary opportunities.

Oh cut him a break. Money is always a motivator, although certainly shouldn't be the singular, or even primary one. I certainly wouldn't do this job for $75000 a year.

And with the high debt load imparted by the cost of many contemporary programs on the PA student, this is a valid concern.
