kirkc18
Im will be a new grad and I have been in talks with a doc. She is offering 40 an hour for 40-60 hours a week work(I am ok with this) in her prompt care side of her clinic along with some hospital work and nursing home work no call no weekends. 4 wks vacation. 1500 cme license paid, and malpractice covered no tail. Health insurance is available but its would be out of pocket and only cover me not my family. Apparently she doesn't offer family coverage to any employees. It would come out to about 82k for family practice as a new grad. It seems like a good deal as the insurance isn't an issue for me because we are covered through my wife's job at a local hospital. Upper 60s to lower 70s is typical for the area for family practice.
Joelseff
If you work 40 hrs it would be 83,200, 60 hour weeks=124,800 It sounds pretty good for FP!!! if you dont mind up to 12 hour days...
Moderator ventana Posted March 9, 2011 Moderator Share Posted March 9, 2011 If the offer is salary not hourly run far away! If you work for free - ie salary at 40 and work 60 hours - it really hurts the established PA's that do not want to work those types of hours with out getting paid. Think about it - if you are working you are generating billable visits - if you are only getting paid for 40 hours and then giving another 50% for free to your employeer you are making more money for them and cheapening the value of your work, and artifically surpressing the rates that other PA's should be earning. In a 37.3 hour work week right out of school I went into an UC/Primary care clinic and generated well over my salary in the first year (I was at 67k and about 20k in bennies in the early 2000) so in comparison you offer is not very good in that family health care can run you in excess fo 15k per year - but compared to your area it sounds better then good hourly of 40/hr - not a bad offer - do you get time and one half over 40? The courts have come down in favor of 1.5 time overtime in both CA and PA so if she is not offereing overtime this is an issue - (see arguement above about the fact that if you are working the clinic you are generating revenue and deserve to be compensated) I would even at this point put in a productivity clause - get her set up for the fact that you want a piece of what you are generating down the road - not likely to happen as a new grad but maybe Maybe anything over $15k/m in collections you get 10% of the first year, 15% of the second year, 20% the third year then a permanent 25% - this way you work harder you get paid more! kirkc18
No there isn't OT but it is an hourly rate. I will certainly bring up productivity. The problem with productivity is it is prompt care and is hit and miss with pt load. I will see what she says regarding this though. I don't know much about billing regarding the hospital and nursing home side of things.
just_me
Huh....I thought legally they have to pay time and half for anything over 40 if you were an hourly employee.... Moderator ventana Posted March 10, 2011 Moderator Share Posted March 10, 2011 yes both the CA and PA courts have sided with PA's that you have to be paid time and one half for over 40 - might not have occured in your federal district yet, but there is now precident so they should be offering OT - heck I have had the thoughts of going back to my last gig and asking them for the OT pay I never got..... kbinvt7
Where does one look up state legislation as it pertains to personal locale and interest? Is there a site devoted to this?
