Firefighter (FF)/EMT and PA

Recommended Posts

I have kept my professional firefighter, paramedic, and EMS instructor certifications throughout PA school and my years of practice.  I let the younger folks do the interior firefighting now, but I still respond some and help out on scenes.  I first respond on EMS calls in my corner of the township when I'm around because the station is about 5-6 miles away.  I make backup EMS runs.  My department replaced the 1st out volunteer EMS crews with paid personnel on station about 2-3 years ago.  Before that, I was the Tuesday night medic.  While I could still pick up paid shifts, I promised my wife that I wouldn't do that since I work nights in the ED and will be home when not working.
