TINSTAAFL works both ways, so when providers choose to go academic, they get something else in lieu of money.  Maybe they wanted to work on another degree, maybe they wanted off call, maybe they wanted to write books, or consult, or do any of a host of other things that aren't compatible with 60 hour work weeks.

rev, I get what you are sayin'. Teaching is its own calling with rewards beyond the monetary. And I truly admire those who follow that path.

 

Eventually I hope to land a position teaching at a PA school..... in the mean time is hard to justify such a large pay cut, with having student loans, raising a family....etc....maybe someday.
