Advanced EM Boot Camp Conference 12/1/14-12/4/14

Recommended Posts

There are a couple threads discussing the original EM Boot Camp conference on here, but I hadn't seen anyone mention this yet?  It was just announced a week or two ago, and apparently a few years in the making as Bukata and Birnbaumer were both talking about this when I attended the original a couple years back.  Designed for folks with more experience under their belt, and specifically geared towards PAs/NPs and MD's moonlighting in/new to the ED.

Waiting for the nod from our department, but pretty sure this is where I'll be spending my CME money this year!  Topics/speaker lineup is impressive...

I just graduated in May and started working in the ED July 1st.  I wanted to attend the EM boot camp but was unable to do so in July.  I don't want to wait until April to attend the encore and thought perhaps the advanced with workshops would be a good choice since it appears they cover many of the same things.  Anyone have any thoughts?  Thanks.

You can buy the basic EM boot camp as a download or stream, go to their website.

Then you would be up to speed to attend the advanced in December.

In my conference experience, I have seen every single one of the speakers at both of these conferences.

I would have a hard time making a recommendation of one over the other based on speakers, though my favorites are Clovis (it all comes down to 5 things), F bomb Mallon (people who swear are more honest), and Klauer (sharp and focused but very congenial).

I am partial to the ACEP/SEMPA course b/c of the sponsorship, though I have much of my EM education due to the offerings at the Center for Medical Education, the sponsors of the boot camp.

I do think they will have a challenge to provide the next phase of these conferences. Workshops require a lot more planning, more instructor involvement, more resources in order to truly accomplish objectives.

When I look at the Advanced boot camp, I see they will be still doing mostly lectures with 2 optional precourse workshops in ekg and imaging interpretation (meaning you will pay for those, $125 each). So I anticipate this to be not as hands on as the phase 2 of ACEP/SEMPA APP academy.

I am planning on getting the self study of the advanced bootcamp and attending phase 1 & 2 of the APP academy this year and next. Phase 2 of the APP academy really seems to be very workshop oriented rather than the advanced boot camp.

The APP academy phase one is more expensive, another $100 unless member of SEMPA, until the cost of the 2 optional workshops is added, then advanced boot camp will be more.

Plus I am more partial to Vegas in the spring than early winter. More likely the pool will be open.

PS for those who are negotiating CME funds, the price difference for both of these conferences between physicians and PAs is $50 to 100. As I have pointed out in the past, neither Ballys, the Paris nor Southwest will give you a PA discount.
