Moderator EMEDPA Posted July 17, 2014 Moderator Share Posted July 17, 2014 There is currently a trade negotiation underway which would prohibit the use of generic medications in many developing nations to benefit multinational pharmaceutical corporations. These medications are vital in fighting HIV, TB, malaria, HTN, DM, and a host of neglected tropical diseases. read this: http://msfaccess.org/spotlight-on/trans-pacific-partnership-agreement then click here http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/support-us/campaigns/trans-pacific-partnership go to the bottom of the page to send a pre-written form letter to our trade ambassador asking him to vote against these negotiations. Speaking as someone who does a lot of medical work in developing nations, I can assure you that this work could not continue if we were forced to use high-priced brand name alternatives instead of generic medications
ToppDog
Thanks for posting this. It's pretty sickening how far Big Pharma will go to ensure profits over pt health.
andersenpa
Just sent my letter E. What's the status of MSF w/ PAs? I remeber years ago how PAs had trouble working with them- b/c the local regulations didn't allow PAs practicing at our usual scope?
whoRyou
Thanks for posting this. It's pretty sickening how far Big Pharma will go to ensure profits over pt health. While pharmaceutical companies have a legal responsibility to their shareholders, they also have a moral responsibility to do their best to help patients’ lives — even if it may not be the most profitable course of action. The mission statements of drug companies usually have one main goal: growing their business. It is time for drug companies to put helping patients first.
