Prospective PA
As I see it, and this may not be the case, the problem with using the edit as a way to update is that it doesn't show then as a new post and it might as well just remain unposted...no one will know you updated... or find it to read... If, instead, you copy your original post and paste it into the latest reply box then change the stats as necessary, it will then be a "new post" and therefore show up on the "new posts" list and the last thing on the thread.... Just copy and paste....its not like you have to retype everything....just change what you need to for the update. mikey
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum :P. I wonder if anyone could answer my questions. I am currently applying for the fall of 2009. I have researched many schools and have come to realize that most schools make it mandatory to have patient care contact or any type of health care related experience. I am 22 and graduated in may 2007 with a degree in biochemistry. I started working a month after I had graduated. The job I currently hold requires me to travel atleast 40% of the time all over the world. Therefore, I have not had any time to gain some health care related experiences. My question is: Would it still be possible for me to have a competative chance in getting into a PA program regardless of my lack of experience? I have decided to apply to schools which do not require the experience. However, I am not too sure exactly how good my application would be without the experience. Thank you all for your time. My Cumulative GPA was a 3.45 Science GP 3.7 Will take GRE in november
LoRezSkyline
Mikey, This is probably a post best-suited for another thread - have a look around, read the stickies in the pre-PA forum, there are quite a few posts re: the need for (or lack thereof!) previous healthcare experience. As for programs that do and don't require it, this is the definitive rundown thanks to coloradoPA: http://www.physicianassistantforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13564 Hope that's of some help... Hopefully, this gives some of the low gpa'ers some hope, although I am not in yet. When the minimum gpa is 2.6 or 2.7 in many physican assistant programs I would hardly consider any gpa in the 3.0 range low. I think anyone with a 3.0 range has a great shot at getting in.
Hemegroup
Not a great shot, but a good shot. Programs are becoming more and more competitive, tending towards the 3.5 and up. The higher your gpa, the better chance you'll have. However, lower gpa's when accompanied by extensive patient care experience are a much better shot than a lower gpa without the experience. Someone with 10,000 hours and a gpa above a 3.0 is pretty much a shoe-in somewhere.
Guest Equusz
Please, for the love of my sanity, can I just point out for the many users of this phrase, that it's "shoo-in", not "shoe-in"! :D
Hemegroup
I wear steel-toe  Although, versus kicking things into place, it could be as a shoe horn helps the foot slide in, a 'shoe-in'.
