Shorter exams

Recommended Posts

Just received an "NCCPA newsblast" stating that they are going to be having shorter exams, reducing the PANCE to 300 questions over fiver hours and PANRE to 240 questions over four hours.

I am planning on taking my first PANRE this summer. I was just wondring what the tests were previously. Thought I remembered having a fiver hour limit with the PANCE when I took it five years ago.

Also, a question regarding strategy... I will be taking the CME resources Chicago review as many of you have suggested, but wondering when the best time to test is. Should I take the course first as a refresher, and to point out where my weak areas are and use as a guide to study for several weeks after? Or should I study for several weeks, prepare, take the course, and then take the test while it is still fresh in my head?

THANKS!

If you're doing FP cme resources will just be a refresher. If your practice has a heavy geriatric population and your exposed to the issues that they have you should be able to fall back on that and you will be fine. However if your practice is more directed towards womens health and peds, cme resources will be excellent for you. There are past threads on this and PAs are still commenting. Go ahead, take the course, concentrate on the main four and read over the rest. Some FPs do almost nothing with ortho, in fact they don't even want it in their office, but remember this is one of the main four. Good luck.

PANRE is typically 300 questions.

I thought pance was now 350 questions. I took an older version that had subexams for primary care(150 questions), surgery(150 questions), general knowledge(300 questions), and 3 practicals. it wasn't boards day, it was boards week.
