Guest spacykase03
Hi! I was wondering if anyone knows if the psych requirement is limited to the three listed on the website (general, developmental, abnormal). I am currently a psych major but never took abnormal psych so I was wondering if that is another class I need to add to my list of classes to take. Thanks! Guest rleitz
Has anyone heard back from UAB? I got my application in early and have not heard anything.
Guest carhar10
I haven't heard from them either. Do they not start interviewing until January?

Guest rleitz
Congrats Utex! I'm envious. I have not heard anything from any of the schools I've applied to, and I THOUGHT that I was competitive. : (

Shmoopy
Spacykace, The UAB program is flexible on some prereqs but I'm pretty sure Abnormal Psych is mandatory...you are going to be treating drug seekers, sexual deviants, blah blah in our phych rotation. You need a firm base to stand on. If you are really concerned about this call the program contact. Hope this helps, Stacy
cnwachu2
Hello everyone. I have a question about UAB's general psych requirement. I took that class and got AP credit for it, will they accept that? I also took Developmental and abnormal psych do you know if they will still require me to take General psych again?
just_me
You should call and check since the do not state it on their site. I know CLEP is usually a no-go not sure about AP though
shann123
Does anybody know what my major has to be if i want to be a SPA at uab?
dilligas
Shann, No specific major is required. You can find UAB's S-PA prerequisites and other admission requirements on their website, and there's a link to it on this forum just below the school name on the PA Schools page. alster
Hey guys this is a bit of an old thread, but I had a question about a prerequisite as well. I was wondering what classes might count for the bio II requirement. I called earlier today with a few questions, and the woman I spoke to said I could take an equivalent but that they would have to look into it. She mentioned what the UAB Bio II covers and it didn't sound like anything I've really taken so far... Here's the description on UAB's website for Biology II: Survey of fungi, plant and animal kingdoms. Anatomy and physiology of higher plants. Major organ systems of animals with emphasis on humans. For major in biology or related fields. Lecture and laboratory. I haven't taken any courses that focus on plants or animals, and it doesn't seem very applicable to PA school, so I was wondering if anyone might have experience with this prereq. I've taken genetics and biochemistry already, so it'd be great if one of those happens to work, but I also want to know what other courses might work for that requirement. I'm open to taking additional courses, but I feel that I'd be wasting time and money to take a bio course concerned with plants and animals specifically rather than humans. Not sure if anyone will have some experience or insight with this, but I'd appreciate the info if you do!
pa_dreams678
I would suggest Anatomy and Physiology! Good Luck!
alster
Thanks for the response! Though maybe I should have also included that anatomy, physiology, and microbio are additional biological science requirements at UAB, so unfortunately I don't think any of those could count as the Bio II requirement. I plan on talking to the program again to see if I can get more information, but if anyone on here has experience with this requirement and what could be considered equivalent, it would be a helpful starting point! Tonya7354
Alexandra, If you go to UAB's website and search for transfer equivalence, then you can select the school you earned credits from and what they would be considered if you were to transfer to UAB. That would be the best way to figure out what would work for you. I hope this helps some.
tbingold
Alexandra Bio II is a general biology course. Lower level, typically a 100 level course. More often than not it is a pre-req for upper level biology courses.
