G'day mate! I'm starting the Grad Cert at U of Q in July this year. Would love to have a chat about the course!
Hey Ben! Welcome to the board! Are you getting excited for clinicals? And I would also love to know how the job outlook is over there!
I was / am a Navy medic for a long time, was a Chief for 8 years and transferred to LEUT the beginning of 2009. I am a Clinical manager which kind of of equates to independent duty corpsman in the US Navy. I have a Bachelor of Health Science (PreHospital), but I specialise in submarine medicine over here.
We will be Physician Assistants here. Public reception is almost zip because we are still finishing up trials run in South Australia and Queensland. The official reception is very positive so far but we will be heading into the clinical year with not many people knowing who we are. Very exciting stuff.

Hey Ben and all you other Aussie soon-to-be PAs. I am American living in Darwin, Australia at the moment with my wife. My situation is that we love Australia and I am applying to PA schools at the moment. Would love to get into either of the two PA schools in Australia i.e. U of Q or James Cook. The odds are slightly against me because in talking to Admissions at U of Q, they definitely are attracting applicants who have had considerable health care experiences. I've had several years experience in mental health field such as working directly with Autistic kids etc but nothing like EMT stuff or clinical jobs of that nature. So if I don't get into Aussie PA school I will then hopefully get into one of the U.S. PA schools of my choice. Not my first dream because my wife and I would really love to continue to build a life over here. At the moment, the training as a U.S. PA is not reciprocal in that I could come back then and practice then as Aussie PA. However, one can always have their degrees translated by the immigration and what not and then they tell you what occupation you come in as. And of course the job prospects for PAs over here still hold a confused cloud over my head. Not sure what that's gonna look like anyway. Anyone feel free to comment on this development or anything else that you think I would find helpful. Cheers.
